Yacht charter in Greece
The first region is of course Athens, the most famous one. Athens
airport has the most advance net of flight connections from almost all
countries in Europe and this easy access makes Athens the number 1 in
yacht charter in Greece.. Some sailors also take a yacht from Lavrion,
it is a marina situated closer to the Cyclades, but still easily
reachable from Athens airport.
The second region is Ionian Sea, with
its 3 charter bases: Corfu, Lefkas and Preveza. Lighter winds in the
summer makes this region very attractive especially for beginners or
families with small children.
The third region is eastwards and consists of 2 islands: Kos and Rhodes.
Most
sailors choose Cyclades as their sailing destination. In Cyclades you
can find beautifull islands with peaceful bays, hundreds of safe
anchorages where you can stop for a night and safely leave your yacht
exploring the islands. In this part of Greece there are not many
European marinas, there are usually small city harbours, where sailors
are warmly welcomed. It makes a great local climate, which you can taste
in local Greek restaurants, by meeting local people, which are very
friendly towards the sailors.
Charter yacht in Greece gives the
possibility to see islands like Mykonos, Delos, Santorini, Milos or
Amorgos or Hydra. Chartering yacht in Greece is fun, easy and gives a
promise of great yachting holidays.
Boat rent in Greece
We have very wide offer of fleet in Greece, mainly from 3 regions: Athens, Ionian Sea and Rhodes/Kos Islands. In Athens, in marina Kalamaki in Alimos, there is a biggest marketplace and actually you can rent here any monohull or multihull you can imagine. Athens is a great starting point for any cruise in Cyclades Islands. Worth mentioning is also Lavrion marina nearby (it is similar distance from Athens airport to Alimos and Lavrion), but from Lavrion it is a little bit nearer to Cyclades. It is recommended for all people that consider 1-week yacht charter in Greece instead of 2 weeks, because they do not loose precious time to get to first island in Aeolian Sea.
You must remember about the weather when chartering yacht in Greek waters. There are famous Meltemi winds, which make the Cyclades islands in July and August rather tough to sail. Many sailors like such sailing conditions, but please remember to be careful when sailing there with small kids. Such cruise can put your crew into troubles.
This is why in high season it is recommended to sail in the Ionian Sea, where you have 2 mains starting points: Corfu, with famour marina Gouvia and Lefkada (Lefkas, Levkada) located on the southern part of Ionian Islands. Light weather conditions make this area accesible for all charterers looking for peaceful cruise.
Last but not least is the Rhodes region, which itself offers sailors and skippers many attractions, but also it is quite close to the Turkish coast, so when you take the monohull in Rhodes or Kos, you can sail to Turkey.
